The 8 Dimensions of a Personal Life Audit

Have you taken time to set your own goals and intentions for the year?

As leaders, it’s important to remember that to truly lead and serve others, we must put our own oxygen masks on first. In a practical sense? This means setting time aside to do work on ourselves before we can truly lead & serve others.

Have you tried completing a personal life audit?

Ask yourself what is working in my life? What’s lacking or needs more focus? A great follow on the question is, what impact is this having on me, my life, and my fulfillment?

The “Wellness Wheel” contains eight dimensions of our life and allows us to take a deep dive into each area to ascertain whether we are "in flow" or out of balance. They are all interconnected and feed off each other! Be mindful that when one is out of balance, it can impact the others.

It is one of our favourite tools to guide you on your personal audit. Why not try giving yourself a rating for each dimension?

Are you practicing resilience rituals and self-care?

Emotional wellness relates to understanding your feelings and coping effectively with stress. It is important to pay attention to self-care, relaxation, stress reduction so you can learn and grow.

Are you spending your time with people that add value to your life?

Social Wellness relates to your connections and relationships. This dimension allows you to not only develop encouraging relationships with peers, but also intimate relationships with romantic partners.

Are you aware of the inputs you are feeding your body and mind?

Physical wellness relates to maintaining a healthy body and mind. Physical health is attained through exercise, eating well, getting enough sleep, and paying attention to the signs of illness, and getting help when needed.

Are you conscious of your surroundings and living in a clutter-free, safe environment?

Environmental wellness inspires us to live a lifestyle that is aware and respectful of our surroundings. This realm encourages us to live in harmony with the Earth by taking action to protect it. Environmental well-being also includes your physical surroundings at home and in the workplace.

Occupational wellness is about enjoying your work (paid and non-paid) and appreciating your contributions. This dimension of wellness encourages personal satisfaction and enrichment in one’s life through work, including the growth opportunities and the work environment.

Spiritual wellness allows you to develop a set of values that help you seek meaning and purpose. Spirituality can be represented in many ways, for example, through relaxation, meditation, nature, or religion. Being spiritually well means knowing which resources to use to cope with issues that come up in everyday life.

Intellectual:

Intellectual wellness involves having an open mind when you encounter new ideas and continuing to expand your knowledge. It encourages active participation to grow your mind, it may be enrolling for training, podcasts, reading, getting a mentor, anything that challenges you intellectually.

Do you have a plan for your personal growth in 2021?

Once you have identified your focus, be sure to align it to SMART goals of how to improve or maintain your balance!

  • Specific - Get clear and detailed on what you wish to achieve
  • Measurable - How will you know when you have achieved it? What is your measure of success?
  • Achievable - Is this a reasonable goal that will challenge and stretch you?
  • Relevant - Is it meaningful? Is it a relevant goal for improving your life?
